Our role in monitoring the island’s wildlife is undertaken by our dedicated staff made up of a Warden and two Assistant Wardens. It’s their passion that helps us to maintain the quality of the information we currently collect and produce a well-received annual report. The data collected are fed back to Natural Resources Wales (NRW) and RSPB and it helps inform decision-making and planning with regard to the management of the island.

BBFO is almost totally dependent on staying visitors and NRW for the bulk of its income with additional funds coming from membership and sales of merchandise on the island. The Trustees regard this as a very precarious position, especially when further cuts to NRW budgets can be expected in the future, and would like to see a more diverse income stream. We currently have little in the way of reserves and it is a priority that they are built up to enable BBFO to withstand a period of hardship, should we lose NRW funding.

This is, of course, easier said than done and is the reason we are seeking the services of a dedicated fund-raiser to take this on. As BBFO is a charity with very limited funds the only way this can be undertaken is for this person to work on a commission basis at a rate of 10% of any income generated.

The anticipated initial time commitment is 6 to 8 days per month. As we have no offices, the role will be home-based.
